- I would like to see some of your pieces in person. Do you have any other locations?
We often have exhibits at regional National Companies Business Expos. We will be listing upcoming events on the website soon. Until then please call us for upcoming events.
- How do I stop gold rings from making my fingers black?
Switch to 18k gold or platinum. The lower alloy content of 18k gold, 25% versus almost 42% in 14kt, significantly reduces the problem. Using platinum should eliminate discoloration completely. Read the article "Finger Discoloration" located in our online library for more suggestions.
- How do I measure my finger size?
We recommend visiting a local jeweler. Most jewellers have a narrow and a wide set of plain finger size rings. Choose a similar width sizing ring and start with a size that slides easily onto the finger and progressively try smaller sizes until you find one that will not go on. The correct size is 1/2 to 1 size larger. If your ring has a hollow head, you may be able to wear a smalller size. If the ring is very wide, you may require a larger size.
- Is it better to add gold or stretch a ring to larger size?
It depends on several factors. The main determinant is how much larger the ring needs to be. An exception to this is when the shank is thin and "stretching" would cause a noticeable change in appearance. Most rings can be stretched (tapped) up one size larger. Sizing up more than one size requires cutting the band and adding gold, silver or platinum.
- Won't cutting the band result in a joint?
Yes and no. Many people do not realize that most mass produced "new" rings are made to a standard size and then cut and soldered to a variety of sizes. There is a joint, but after sizing the joint should not be visible. The correct way to size a ring is to add or remove gold to make it slightly smaller than the desired finger size and then tapping (hammering) to the correct size.
- How do I make rings fit correctly on thin or arthritic fingers?
When the ring area is substantially smaller than the knuckle, rings have a tendency to slip around the finger. This is especially true for rings with narrow bands and heavy heads. There are several adjustments that can help. Adding sizing beads or ring guards are the lowest cost and most common methods to reduce slipping, but have limited effectiveness. There are several types of adjustable shanks that are more effective including: Adjusto-Shank, Finger-Fit, Forever-Fit, and Super-Fit Shanks. Cost and finger shape determine the appropriate solution.
- How do I guess the correct ring size for a surprise gift?
Don't! Our advice is to present the ring in its existing size and then bring the lucky owner to a local jeweller to have their finger measured properly and the ring sized accurately. Every time a ring is sized up or down there is some loss of metal, due to smoothing, working and polishing the metal. Athough the loss is minimal the more times a ring is sized this minimal loss has a additive effect.
